Beloved drive-in rises from ashes

Entrepreneurship comes in many different shapes, sizes, and forms. One year ago Bob Groves’ drive-in movie theater burnt to the ground. Many owners would have called it quits and sold the land, but Bob’s dedication and passion for the place compelled him to rebuild. (From the News & Observer)

"Groves, 53, initially had said he would reopen within 60 days, but the screen was uninsured. He had trouble persuading bankers to take a chance on a fading form of entertainment."

"It was tough to stay alive even before the fire," said Groves, who lives in a rusting metal trailer by the drive-in's entrance with his aging German shepherd, Blackie. "You've got to keep a positive attitude or you'll lose it. Some days you don't think you'll make it."

This is a great story about an entrepreneur’s drive to succeed (and start over). Not only is Bob Groves’ business reborn, but he gets to see the fruits of his labor plain as day – 300 carloads of people packing the place on opening night to see The Dukes of Hazard. Why you may ask when you could rent the DVD and watch it in HD on your surround sound plasma home TV...? For the experience, that's why. God Bless America and entrepreneurs willing to take risks!
